If you believe there is a divine creator, then you believe he made each individual in a family for each other. Many Responsible pet owners treat their animals like Family.
Their is no gray area in Pet Care. Either you love your pets or you do not it is simple black or white. People who fall into a gray area neglect their pets and most often the end up in Animal Shelters.
To feel bonded as a family is the essence of being human. Reaching out to take care of any one of us is to take care of all of us. To hurt one of us is to hurt all of us.
